Update 2 – Name released of person killed and deputy involved in deadly force incident in Clark County

Olympia, Wash. (May13, 2025) – The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations (OII) has identified the deputy involved in a use of deadly force incident that occurred on May 07 as Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryson Layton. 

Deputy Layton has been with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office since May 2023 and is currently working a patrol assignment.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the person who died as Marc Fogle, age 54, of Clackamas, Oregon. His cause of death was listed as multiple stab wounds. An OII family liaison has been assigned and is in communication with Mr. Fogle’s family. 

The fatal encounter occurred about 11:58 p.m. on May 07 at the Ridgefield Port of Entry, a scale facility on northbound Interstate 5. OII has set up a tip line and is asking anyone who may have information regarding the incident to call 564-250-6275. All information provided to OII is subject to public disclosure, as required by RCW 42.56, the Public Records Act.
