OII to hold virtual community meeting Nov. 13

The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations (OII) will host a virtual community meeting as it prepares to actively respond to use of deadly force cases in Southwest Washington and on the Olympic Peninsula.

  • When: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13
  • Where: Virtual Zoom meeting
  • How to join: Visit Region 1 Community Meeting to register.

The community meeting is meant for those in Region 1, one of the agency’s six areas of operations statewide. On December 1, OII will begin responding to use of deadly force incidents in this region, which includes Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Clark, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Jefferson, Kitsap, Skamania, Cowlitz, and Wahkiakum counties. However, the meeting is open to anyone statewide who wishes to attend.

This is an opportunity for the community to meet Director Roger Rogoff and learn more about the OII investigation process as well as its tribal, family, and community liaison programs. There will be an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.

If you would like OII to present at your organization’s meeting, email Community@oii.wa.gov to reach the Community Liaison Program. Visit oii.wa.gov to learn more about this new state agency.

The state Legislature created OII in 2021 to conduct independent and unbiased investigations of deadly use of force by law enforcement. It works with an 11-member advisory board that reviews and provides input on agency policies.
